Where would the Cowboys for Heroes event be without our wonderful entertainers and musicians ? Desert Reign's driving Christian "tonk" in the background makes the everyone's day. I really enjoy their music.
The shoot 'em up outfit called the Texas Wild Bunch are so funny. Kids of all ages just love them. I get to laughing so hard I can't hold the camera steady.
This was the first year for the Cloggers and they really put on a show. So much energy on a hot afternoon. Whew ! I got hot just watching them. Nice work folks.

A great young singer who did the National Anthem. I apologize but I never heard her name and don't know anyone who knows her. |

They were great !
At the risk of offending the military brass I want to say something as an individual Cowboys for Heroes event volunteer and sponsor of four years.
Normally, I would have a big picture story on the First Cavalry from Fort Hood. They were scheduled to come this year just like last year when they were the highlight of the event. They filled two bleachers with the families.
Everyone especially the kids were completely wide eyed. After each stunt the crowd cheered and cheered. We had never seen reaction like that before. Everyone involved knew this group was the perfect entertainment for our heroes and their families.
The horse soldiers charged up and down the arena firing blanks from their old west six shooters. They raced their horses, hooped and hollered, shot out balloons, drove a supply wagon at break neck speed and generally put on a heck of a show. Out of the eight year history of this event, the Cavalry stole the show.
Here's why there is no story about them this year. SEQUESTRATION....CFH learned the week of the event the Cavalry was not coming due to sequestration. That week ! When CFH leadership offered to raise the money to pay their travel expenses they were rebuked due to what everyone knows is phony budget theatre.
So, folks, I am just going to say it. It looks like the brass at Fort Hood would rather please the Washington politicians than honor their own wounded. That's pretty darned sad.
