"Easy Pickin's" This is a good sized casserole dish filled with a variety of rose blooms from the garden. Notice the variety of colors. They all smell wonderful ! |
Now it is the Middle of May and my little garden has had a chance to grow. I've had a chance to learn about roses and what I want the garden to look like.
This is my Magnolia Flower tree. Annuals to spruce up the shady areas. |
I've found some resources and even found a retirement rocker for the patio. The swing, rockers, and work bench came from the cedar thickets of the Texas Hill country.
I am including them to try to lay out the big picture. Right now the plants seem to be taking turns between putting down roots, literally, and making pretty blossoms. One week you will see the plant in bloom. The next week no blooms but plenty of growth signs. It's a neat thing to watch.
Remember that dark shady corner ? Here is a raised bed fern garden that loves the shade. I put under mulch irrigation in the bed. Agua no problema. |
I am definitely getting more birds and squirrels. Maybe a few resident butterflies and bees but not too many. The squirrels are here to investigate the pecan shell mulch. I guess the scent drives them like Channel #5 does a man. They come a running whenever I dump a few fresh bags into the roses.
The fence on the left started this deal. Roses to climb it for privacy. The foot path enables us to walk without stepping in a doggie mine. |
Give me a few months and I'll show you how they look once they really start blooming.
Thanks for all the nice comments. And yes it is a lot of work. Fun tho !
More roses even under the Fig trees. |
The patio received a border of small bush roses. We will be able to see over them. |

Rocking chairs, porch swings and cool cool evenings. Yeah ! |
Looking at the new walk and newer stone border. That's a Wisteria Tree in the foreground. It's the centerpiece of this deal. |
Yup Orange antique roses. Y'all stay tuned, there's more to grow ! |
