Here is Bub Garner's "Retire Right" Program. It's a fun filled "second act".
Bub Garner is an amazing guy. He is retiring as a journeyman mechanic at the San Antonio public transportation company. He's had his retirement activity program figured out for a long time.
The ultimate hot rodder song ?
He says he will continue to do the things he loves.
The ultimate hot rodder song ?
He says he will continue to do the things he loves.
Bub is first and foremost a hot rodder. He has what I would call the perfect street rod. It's a 1936 Ford pick up. He's owned and worked on the truck since he was a teenager. It's bright orange as are his shirts, watch, furniture and about anything else he owns. He beams a big smile when he tells you his wife is very understanding. In the fifties his father's drag cars were all orange. So he figures he comes by it
honestly.
For future revenue Bub knows he can fix up street rods and make good money. However, he would rather not ruin a lifelong hobby by making it into work.
Or is this one better ?
Or is this one better ?
He is a jolly, personality plus kind of guy. His stature, beard, hair and coloring make him a perfect Santa Claus look alike. He supplements his income by making Christmas appearances. Companies large and small hire Bub and his team. Mrs. Bub plays the part of Mrs. Santa, wouldn't you know.
Now comes a surprise. Bub is a baker. He earns money baking Carrot Cakes. As soon as he posts a notice at work the cake orders come rolling in. He's baked as many as 38 in one day.
So ! He is a journeyman mechanic, a hot rodder, a Santa Bub, plus he's Bub the baker man. You would think that would be enough.
Not for Bub, in his younger years he was a drummer in a "Blues" band. He and one of his original band mates are getting the band back together. They expect to gigging for years. He and his car club buddies count among their personal friends, Kim Wilson and Jimmy Vaughn, key members of the famous "Fabulous Thunderbirds". I'm impressed and can't wait to hear Santa play the blues.
This is one busy and happy individual. He'll have a ball in retirement.
As Bub would say HO, HO, HO Y'all !!!

Life's purpose is not to arrive at the grave in good shape. Hell no, you want to get there late, body worn slap out, skidding sideways, eyes all bloodshot, hair smoking and hollering "Holy Crap !! ... What a ride !!"
