I know a lot of people won't like this music. But that's o.k. because this one's just for me. In my opinion the "Bridge of Sigh's" album was one of the high lights in the history of rock and roll.

There have been plenty of seminal moments in rock. During my 50 plus year love affair with the music there have been more than a few memorable albums. Layla, Dire Straits, Hendrix, Ventures etc.

But rarely have I had such an emotional attachment to an entire album. Nor have I enjoyed a singer for so many years without knowing anything about the guy. Not even his name.

For years I thought Robin Trower was the name of the lead singer. Little did I know Trower was a famous guitarist and owner of the group. The singing was done by hired hand James Dewar, the bass player.

Dewar was a wonderful vocalist yet somehow remained a sort of background figure his entire career.

I don't understand the way that worked then and to this day don't get it. Such a wonderful soulful almost mournful voice. Another who would go to an early grave unheralded and basically unrecognized.

Rarely do singer's voices reach into your soul like Dewar. There were two others. One Gregg Allmon, of the Allmon Brothers, who still lives. The other Terry Kath, lead singer and guitarist for "Chicago" died in 78. If you have a chance listen to "Stormy Monday" by Greg, the "Bridge of Sighs" by Dewar, who died in 2002, and Terry Kath doing "Make me Smile".

I am going to link this article to several songs from "Bridge of Sighs" one of my favorite all time albums. To me it's rock and roll for the ages.

I hope you enjoy the music !

Life's purpose is not to arrive at the grave with the body in good shape. Hell no, you want your body worn slap out, skidding in sideways, eyes bloodshot, hair smoking and all the while hollering "Yee Haw !! ...  What a ride !!"
