We always say this event is about the wounded soldiers. But when all is said and done, it's not. It may have started off that way but the event was quickly highjacked by a gang of four year olds and their accomplices. The day is now all about the soldier's families. Each year, as I walk the grounds while shooting these pictures, I see more and more children.
Kids ! Lots and lots of high frequency, high volume, high energy kids. Kids of all ages. They are running, laughing, playing, falling down, crying and just being kids. They play with each other, with the critters, with the volunteers and their families. You look from the kids to their moms, dads and grand parents. The grown-ups are just standing there grinning, happy and proud. They're letting them be kids. Hey a little mud never hurt anyone, especially on a day like today ! The pride and the energy level is high. It's a good wholesome day for all of us.

If life is boring, don't just sit there !
Do something !
Wow, that looks like a scary sport with the sheep and the helmets!!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Amy, They are fairly well protected and the dirt is really soft. Sometimes it scares the smaller kids but no one seems to get hurt.
ReplyDeleteNice emails from Walt Robertson, Janice Ellis, Jeff Masengale and two others.
Received a nice note from Travis Florquist of White Hall, Arkansas. He thought the mutton busting shots of the kids looked like fun.
