Travel....Gilbert, Arkansas

A couple of things cause Gilbert, Arkansas to stand out.

The first is that it sits right in a bend of the Buffalo National River. The second is the Gilbert Cafe. The cafe is a great place to stop for lunch or coffee and pie. The Gilbert Cafe is run by a Louisiana lady who knows her business.

While your there get the nice waitress to tell you about the case of the disappearing Chupacabra. I knew if the Chupacabra was ever going to show his face, it would naturally be in the Ozarks.

Some of the old commune homes in Gilbert, Ark.

The picture of the little plain houses reminds us there was once a commune in Gilbert. That's about all I know about that. Some swami, guru, preacher brought a bunch of believers but didn't stay too long.

Many times during the winter, Little Rock weather men name Gilbert the coldest place in the state. I can personally attest to it.

Gilbert has a place to put your boat in the river. Or you can just wander down to the end of main street and go swimming. In addition to the Gilbert Cafe there are accommodations, rental canoes and an outfitter in the old Country store. The place is worth checking out.

If your not passing the area at a meal time. Take a break. Drive on down the little lane and grab a cup of joe and a piece of cherry pie. Just off Highway 65. The folks really are friendly.
