More examples for the fun things in life.
7. Politics..... Yes, I follow them closely. No, I don't want to talk about it. But I am suggesting you keep your eye on those crooks in Washington and act accordingly.
8. Cooking..... I have always enjoyed using an outdoor grill. It's a family tradition. My technique is simple. Meat, fire and fork. That's it. Build a fire and cook the meat on a grill. I use my great grandfather's sauce. Four generations and it still speaks well of the old German.
9. Target shooting....we are fortunate so many retired military live in our city. The military guys create a market for target and shotgun ranges. There are five or six good rifle and pistol ranges. I go to one on the north side because it's clean, safe and well run.
22 rifles and pistols are my choice. You can spend a half day, shoot three or four boxes of shells, pay the range fee and spend less than twenty bucks. Now that's my idea of a good time.
10. Clay Pigeons and shotguns...I have picked up a new "bug" since starting this retirement deal. I love this shotgun thing. Right now I am having a terrible time converting from a fair to middlin' hunter into a clay pigeon shooter. I only have one drawback. I can't hit the damned things.
San Antonio is the home base for the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the National Sporting Clays Association. Their range is called the National Shooting Complex. San Antonio is also the home to the oldest gun club in the nation. It too is a professional grade skeet, trap and five stand range. Neither are expensive and both operate in a genteel atmosphere. They have great fields as well super club houses. The shooters welcome you and even hide their laughter best they can. Dang, I really am bad. But I am having a ball.
11. FISHING thank goodness I have found it again.
Our family fished. We fished on Arkansas's White River and Lake Norfork. I grew up fishing. I wasn't necessarily good at it but I liked the water. When I lived on Captiva, I fished. Lord did I fish. Once hooked on salt water you get spoiled. Florida's great blue skies, that pretty green to blue water, the huge cloud banks, palm trees hanging over water, sandy shell beaches, salt in the air and all that sunshine....how could you not fall in love with saltwater fishing.
12. Home entertainment movies...so many times when we are in the mood for television there seems to nothing on. We've started collecting what we consider classic movies and documentaries. Now we are able to pull out something worthwhile and kill time in a proper manner.
13. One more I just can't leave out..... NAPS....that's right napping has become a passion. I have always taken little cat naps when possible but I now have officially declared naps as a part of my daily routine. Get a little shut eye after lunch and I promise you'll live longer. Well maybe not longer but you sure as heck won't be tired when you die. That ought to account for something don't you think ?
I am looking for other people to sound off. If you have interesting activities to recommend, please let me hear from you.
